Finding Money for College through SCHOLARSHIPS
Is it possible to graduate from college with little to no debt? The answer is "YES" with the aid of scholarships. Here are two terrific scholarship opportunities for your student to pursue to help pay for college: The Marshall H. and Nellie Alworth Memorial Fund and the Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation. Every spring, each of these foundations awards $1.2 million and $900,000 respectively to students in the northland.
The Marshall H. and Nellie Alworth Memorial Fund annually awards 60 to 70, four-year, $20,000 scholarships ($5,000 per year) to northern Minnesota high school graduates majoring in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). Application deadline is Jan. 15, 2019.
To be eligible to apply applicants must graduate from a high school in one of the following Minnesota counties: Aitkin, Beltrami, Carlton, Cass, Cook, Crow Wing, Lake, Itasca, Koochiching and St. Louis. Applicants must also: have a composite score of 25 or higher on the American College Test; have a minimum cumulative high school GPA of 3.5; commit to major in a math- or science-related field; demonstrate qualities of character, perseverance and ambition; and be from a family whose taxable income is less than $120,000.
