Over the past couple weeks you've heard several announcements about the scholarships of the Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation. These announcements have featured some of the foundation's less well known scholarships but there are many others. Start and application and take the Eligibility Quiz to see what you can apply for. There are many different awards! Attention seniors! Thinking about studying Art in college? Thinking about going to the University of Wisconsin-Superior - one of the most affordable schools in the region? The Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation has two scholarships just for you. The Emile Mathis Scholarship and the Ronald Joseph Mathis Scholarship each provide $500 for art students at UWS. There are no other requirements - just art at UWS - but still there are very few applicants. This may be the scholarship for you if you apply by the January 15th deadline! Seniors. Do you have a Green Thumb?! The Minnesota State Horticultural Society is offering two $500 scholarships and one $250 scholarship to college bound students in our region who have shown interest or participation in horticultural/gardening activities. Ever considered working in Minnesota's mining industry? The newly created Society for Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration Scholarship might be just what you're looking for. Use this $4000 scholarship to pay for your degree in mining, engineering or geology and you could be on your way to a great career in a well paying, local job. The Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation is taking applications for the newly created Richard Washburn Scholarship, sponsored by Ulland Brothers. This scholarship - worth up to $4000 - is for students who live within 100 miles of Cloquet, Virginia or Albert Lea, have a GPA of 2.8 or greater, and are planning a career in the construction industry. Minnesota Power is looking to recognize high school seniors who have been particularly active in their communities through volunteerism and community service. They are offering numerous $2500 scholarships to people who live in their service area (in other words HERE), have a GPA of 3.0 or greater and have been active in their community, church or high school.
